Privacy Policy

Last updated August 5, 2026

The short version

Orbfile converts, resizes, and compresses your files entirely inside your own browser. The files you work with are never uploaded, transmitted, or sent to any server — ours or anyone else's. We simply don't have access to them.

1. Your files

Every conversion tool on Orbfile runs locally in your browser — using its built-in WebCodecs media codecs via Mediabunny, WebAssembly engines (ImageMagick WASM, pdf.js, and similar), or, where a codec your browser lacks is needed, a small open-source polyfill loaded directly into the page. When you drop a file into a tool, it's read, processed, and written back out entirely on your device's hardware. At no point does that file leave your browser tab.

2. Local storage & the engine cache

Orbfile may ask your permission to store its conversion engines — not your files, just the WebAssembly software itself — in your browser's IndexedDB storage. This is purely a performance optimization: it lets the tools load instantly on a return visit instead of re-downloading several megabytes of engine code.

  • This storage is local to your device and is never transmitted anywhere.
  • Declining is fully supported — tools work identically either way, just re-fetching the engine each visit.
  • You can clear this cache at any time by clearing your browser's site data for Orbfile, or by declining when asked again.

3. Cookies & similar technologies

Orbfile uses your browser's local storage (not third-party tracking cookies) to remember simple preferences, such as whether you've agreed to the engine cache described above.

4. Analytics

If Orbfile uses any privacy-respecting, aggregated analytics to understand which tools are used, such analytics never include the contents, names, or metadata of the files you convert.

5. Third-party services

Orbfile is built as a static site and does not rely on a backend to process your files. Fonts, engines, and scripts are vendored and served from Orbfile itself rather than fetched from third-party CDNs at runtime, so loading the app doesn't hand your browsing activity to other companies.

6. Children's privacy

Orbfile does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect file contents or personal information in the first place.

7. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the “Last updated” date above. Since Orbfile fundamentally doesn't collect your files, we don't expect that principle to change.
