Frequently asked questions
Is this TS to MOV converter free?+
Yes, with no watermark and no account. The engine runs locally in your browser, so there's no server queue limiting usage.
Is my video uploaded to a server?+
No. Orbfile uses your browser's own built-in media codecs (via the WebCodecs API and Mediabunny), so encoding happens entirely on your device.
How long will it take?+
It depends on your device and the video's length and resolution — expect roughly real-time to a few times real-time for typical clips.
Is there a maximum file size?+
There's no fixed upload limit — since everything runs on your device, the practical limit is your browser's available memory, which handles typical clips and even fairly long recordings without issue.
How do I convert TS to MOV?+
Drop your TS file into the box above — Orbfile re-encodes it to MOV using your browser's own codecs and gives you a download link when it's done.
About TS and MOV
What is TS?
TS (MPEG Transport Stream) is a broadcast- and camera-oriented format designed to stay resilient during streaming or recording interruptions.
Full TS format guide →What is MOV?
MOV is Apple's QuickTime container format — it's what iPhones record video into by default.
Full MOV format guide →The short version: MOV gives you native to Apple's camera and editing apps, which helps once you run into TS's biggest limitation: less convenient for editing or sharing than MP4. It's a natural move when your video is headed toward editing in Final Cut Pro or iMovie.
How it works
- 1
Drop your file in
Drag your video onto the box above, or click it to browse — there's no account to create and no upload to wait on.
- 2
Pick your settings
The output format is already set for this page — just adjust any extra options shown, if there are any.
- 3
Download the result
Your browser processes everything locally and hands you a download link the moment it's done — nothing was ever sent to a server.
Is it private?
Everything happens locally, inside this browser tab. Your video is read from disk, processed with WebAssembly running on your own device, and handed back to you as a download — it's never transmitted anywhere, so there's nothing to intercept and nothing stored on a server.
Common use cases
- Editing in Final Cut Pro or iMovie
- Footage straight off an iPhone
- Uploading a clip to social media
- Sending a video over email or chat

About TS files+
TS (MPEG Transport Stream) is a broadcast- and camera-oriented format designed to stay resilient during streaming or recording interruptions.
MPEG Transport Stream was designed for broadcast television, where a signal might briefly drop out or arrive slightly out of order, so the format includes built-in error correction and the ability to resynchronize mid-stream rather than failing outright. That resilience is also why many camcorders and broadcast capture cards record directly to .ts files, even though the format is less convenient than MP4 for editing or casual sharing once the footage is off the device.
How to open a TS file
Opens readily in VLC Media Player. For real editing, use DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro.
Good for
- resilient to data loss mid-stream
- common output from camcorders and broadcast equipment
Watch out for
- less convenient for editing or sharing than MP4
About MOV files+
MOV is Apple's QuickTime container format — it's what iPhones record video into by default.
MOV was built by Apple as the native container for QuickTime back in the early 1990s, well before MP4 existed — in fact, the ISO base media format that MP4 is built on borrows heavily from QuickTime's original design. Today it's mainly notable as the format iPhones record video into and the format Final Cut Pro and other Apple editing tools favor, including support for high-end codecs like ProRes that MP4 doesn't typically carry.
How to open a MOV file
Opens readily in QuickTime Player, Most modern browsers and media players. For real editing, use Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, iMovie.
Good for
- native to Apple's camera and editing apps
- supports high-quality codecs like ProRes
Watch out for
- some non-Apple platforms and older editors handle it inconsistently
